River Nyando bursts banks, displaces families in Kisumu County

Date:

Early Friday morning, River Nyando overflowed, displacing dozens of families in Kamidumbi and Panadol villages in Ahero, Kisumu County. The affected residents have been forced to seek refuge along the highway as floodwaters inundate their homes and farms.

The Kenya Red Cross Action Team, in partnership with the National and County Governments, is on the ground conducting assessments to determine the extent of the damage and identify the most urgent needs.

“We are working to ensure a coordinated response to support the affected families,” a Red Cross official said, adding that they are prioritizing food, shelter, and emergency supplies for those displaced.

Local authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to exercise caution and seek safety in elevated regions as heavy rains continue in the region.
