Austin Odhiambo made headlines on Sunday after scoring the decisive goal in Kenya’s 1–0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo during the opening match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Kasarani Stadium.

The Gor Mahia midfielder fired a low, driven shot in the dying minutes of the first half to hand Harambee Stars a crucial three points. His goal ignited celebrations across the packed stadium and drew praise from fans and national leaders, who lauded the performance as a symbol of Kenya’s football revival.

Born on December 16, 1999, in Siaya County, Odhiambo plays as an attacking midfielder for Gor Mahia FC in the Kenyan Premier League. He joined the club in October 2021 from AFC Leopards.

Renowned for his vision, dribbling, and creative play, Odhiambo has emerged as one of the league’s standout performers. His stellar form during the 2023–24 season earned him the Most Valuable Player award at the FKF Gala in July 2024.
