The stage is set for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), and Kenya is finally ready to host the continent.
For the first time in history, Kenya will co-host CHAN alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The tournament will kick off on Friday, August 2, and run until August 30.
The Local Organising Committee has confirmed that all of Kenya’s matches will be played at either Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani) or Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
With the opening fixture between Kenya and DR Congo set for August 3 at 3:00 PM, tickets for the match are already sold out—five days before kick-off.
This follows a directive from LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye that there will be no ticket sales on match days to ensure smooth access and tight security.
“There will be no ticket sales on match days. Fans should buy early to avoid chaos,” Musonye said last week while touring the venues.
Tickets retail at Ksh200 for regular, Ksh500 for VIP and Ksh1,000 for VVIP. Each ticket is valid for a single match and can be purchased at chan.mookh.com.
The Ministry of Sports and CAF have banned hawking, vuvuzelas, drums, and narcotic drugs inside the stadiums throughout the tournament for safety reasons.
Only fans with valid tickets will be allowed into the venues. Those without tickets have been asked to stay away from stadium gates to avoid congestion.
CS Salim Mvurya has assured fans of their safety and urged them to turn up in large numbers to support their teams throughout the tournament.
CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo has also asked Kenyans to embrace the Pamoja spirit and set a good example as hosts of CHAN and future events.
Kasarani Stadium will host most of Kenya’s group matches, with Nyayo Stadium acting as a supporting venue for selected fixtures in Group A.
Group A features Kenya, Morocco, DR Congo, Angola and Zambia. All matches will be held in Nairobi. The full Group A fixture is as follows:
August 3: Kenya vs DR Congo – 3:00 PM, Kasarani
Morocco vs Angola – 6:00 PM, Nyayo
August 7: Angola vs Kenya – 7:00 PM, Kasarani
August 10: Kenya vs Morocco – 3:00 PM, Kasarani
August 14: Morocco vs Zambia – 6:00 PM, Nyayo
Angola vs DR Congo – 6:00 PM, Kasarani
August 17: Kenya vs Zambia – 3:00 PM, Kasarani
DR Congo vs Morocco – 6:00 PM, Nyayo
Group B will be staged in Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. It includes hosts Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic.

Matches for Group B begin on August 2 with Tanzania facing Burkina Faso. One fixture will be held at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
Group C will be played at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. It features Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa. Fixtures begin August 4.
Group D matches, featuring Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria, will be played at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. CAF is yet to release the full fixture list.
The format includes four groups—three with five teams and one with four. The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals.
The grand final is scheduled for August 30 at 6:00 PM at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nairobi.
Kenya’s venues include Kasarani (60,000 capacity) and Nyayo (45,000). Tanzania hosts matches at Benjamin Mkapa (60,000), and Uganda at Mandela Stadium (45,000).
Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, with a 15,000 capacity, will host select Group B and Group D matches.

As the countdown to kick-off continues, the LOC and CAF are urging fans to adhere to matchday rules, avoid restricted items, and arrive early.
CHAN 2024 is more than just football. It’s Kenya’s redemption, a chance to prove its readiness for bigger tournaments like AFCON 2027.
The wait is over. The continent is watching. The fans are ready. And for the first time, Kenya is not just participating—but proudly hosting.
