President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor Moses Kuria has strongly criticized the disruption of a church service that was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement shared on his X account, Kuria described the incident as disrespectful and contrary to religious values.
“This is utterly ungodly. Leave your backward and primitive political wars out of places of worship,” Kuria wrote. “Today was AIPCA Kenol reloaded. The lightning that will strike us is still loading. Pole sana Gachagua.”
His comments came after unknown individuals attempted to force their way into a church where Gachagua was attending a Sunday service. The disruption briefly caused panic among congregants and led to heightened security concerns.
The chaos unfolded shortly after Gachagua and his entourage arrived, with the intruders attempting to breach the church’s entrance. Security personnel swiftly intervened, surrounding the former Deputy President and repelling the aggressors.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as tensions escalated, with some members of the church standing firm to block the attackers from entering.
In the heat of the moment, the presiding bishop called for calm, urging worshippers not to panic.
Order was eventually restored after security forces managed to disperse the group, allowing the service to proceed without further disturbances.
Speaking after the incident, Gachagua expressed disappointment, questioning why such an attack would happen in a place of worship.
“I don’t understand why goons were sent to attack us during a church service,” he said. “I don’t want to say much right now because I have an interview tomorrow and I have things to say.”
