Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to hold a press briefing today to provide an update on the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process aimed at resolving the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) conflict.
The briefing will take place at his office on Dennis Pritt Road, Nairobi, starting at 9 a.m.
“The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya and Facilitator of the EAC-Led Nairobi Peace Process cordially invites members of the press to a briefing on the update of the Nairobi Peace Process,” reads a press invite from Kenyatta’s office.
Launched in April 2022, the Nairobi Peace Process is a regional initiative under the East African Community (EAC) to address conflict in eastern DRC. Kenyatta was appointed facilitator in August 2022 and has since overseen multiple peace negotiations between the DRC government and the M23 rebel group.
Kenyatta’s briefing comes ahead of a joint summit between the EAC and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), co-chaired by President William Ruto and Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The summit, scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2025, in Tanzania, will bring together key regional leaders, including DRC’s President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.
Other confirmed attendees include South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, and Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
