The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has summoned Naivasha Member of Parliament,Jane Kihara, to appear before its Disciplinary Committee following the circulation of a widely shared video clip.
In the clip, Kihara is heard making derogatory remarks about the party, which the UDA claims violated its values and principles.
In the clip, Kihara states, “Mi husema ile kitu ya UDA naweza nunua labda ni Tissue Paper ile yelloow toilet paper coz i’ll use it n throw it in the toilet.”
She further expressed frustration over the party’s financial policies and the handling of high-income earners’ deductions.
Kihara also commented on the exclusion of certain members from expressing their opinions within the party, citing the case of Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy President, who was reportedly dismissed for speaking out.
“UDA said pesa mfukoni, but nowadays, Hadi ilee Iko kwa mfuko wanatoa.”
“You see SHIF na SHA, We were told that the high income earners will be deducted more so as to pay for the low income earners..but it’s not the case, do you wonder why it’s the president only who can explain SHA?”
“When we say things are going a stray, wanatuita mapepo. That’s why Riggy Owas kicked out for speaking the truth “. she said.
The party has now cited Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya, which, together with the UDA code of conduct and Kihara’s oath of office, outlines the expected behavior of party members.
As a party member, Kihara is expected to promote the party’s image, interests, and adhere to its core values, which the UDA claims she failed to do in this instance.
As per the party’s constitution, Kihara has been summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on December 24, 2024, at 9 AM. The hearing will take place at Hustler Plaza, 4th Floor, Board Room.
If the complaint against her is upheld, she could face disciplinary action as stipulated under Article 29 of the UDA Constitution.
Kihara is allowed to represent herself at the hearing or appear with legal counsel, as provided for in the party’s constitution.
