Date:

Laikipia Senator John Kinyua has stepped down from his role as a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

The announcement of his resignation was made in the Senate on Tuesday, November 19, by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot. In a notice of motion, Cheruiyot informed the house that Kinyua would be replaced by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga.

However, the reasons for Kinyua’s resignation were not disclosed.

“The Senators have unanimously, by applause, approved the appointment of Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga as Parliamentary Service Commissioner to replace Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, who resigned from that office,” read a statement by the Senate.

The PSC, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, consists of 11 members. It includes representatives from the majority and minority parties in both houses, as well as a civilian experienced in public service, currently Johnson Muthama.

“The Commission is responsible for providing services and facilities to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of Parliament,” states the 2010 Constitution.

Additionally, the PSC is tasked with preparing annual estimates of parliamentary service expenditure for approval by the National Assembly and exercising budgetary control over the service.
