

Two people have lost their lives after the car they were in plunged into the Thwake River along the busy Machakos-Kitui Road. The duo died on the spot while three others sustained varying injuries which were reported during the accident on January 30 in the morning.
As stated by Kithangaini Sub location Area Assistant Chief Stephen Mutua Ndambuki who confirmed the unfortunate incident, there were a total of five people in the car at the time of the crash and apart from the fatalities, two survivors were given first aid by emergency team and taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for further treatment. In a questionable turn of events, the other survivor who managed to escape from the car but ran away during the rescue operation.
The car which was reportedly moving along Machakos-Kitui Road lost balance and is said to have gone uncontrolled off the road and down into the river. Investigations are ongoing on what made the vehicle lose control and it remains unclear.
The accident has sparked renewed concerns about road safety along the Machakos-Kitui Road, which has seen several similar accidents in recent months. Local authorities have urged the road users to be cautious while plying the route as the Kenya metrological department ward Kenyans of looming heavy downpour across most parts of the which might have negative effects on careless road users and those who live within the water harvesting and catchment areas.
