Speaking at the 5th KEWOTA Conference Advisor on Women Rights, Hon Harriette Chiggai said the femicide cases must be stopped adding many deaths have been because a woman loved a man.
She hailed the President’s declaration that all arms of Government must collaborate to end this vice, is clear indication that we can reverse these femicide cases by working together adding that data indicates that four out five women die out of intimate partner violence and this is shocking
“Together, let us develop and support initiatives that address GBV and create safe learning spaces for all. Yesterday the President reaffirmed his commitment in support of women and children in the fight against GBV and pledged Ksh 100m to the “Safe Homes Safe Spaces” initiative by being championed by my Office,” she said.
Hon. Harriette called on the teaching fraternity to close ranks and help the Government create safe spaces for our children in schools.
Lending her voice to these concerns, KEWOTA National CEO Benta Opande called on all Kenyans of goodwill to join of the campaign on 176 Days Against Gender based Violence beginning this Monday.
“We have to join hands in making sure women and girls are safe in working environments as well as at home,” she said.
CEO Opande called for use of technology in classroom to enhance the success of the Competency Based Curriculum saying without technology and IT it will be an uphill task to see the true fruits of CBC as envisaged.
“CBC can only realize its full potential when digital technology is embraced in its implementation,” she stressed.
She was supported by the Estonia Honorary Consul to Kenya H.E Humal Kadri – Ayal who encouraged use of digital libraries b both students and teachers in learning.
Speaking at the event the National Chairperson Modesta Akaki disclosed that the organization was working with computer supplies to avail affordable computers to teachers.
The National Treasurer Jacinta Ndegwa encouraged teachers to invest and involve themselves with income generating projects to boost their salary income.
She announced that as a way to meet the two-thirds bender rule eve male teachers are joining KEWOTA in their droves and today the organization has at least one male representative in very of the 47 counties.
