The rise and popularity of the ruling United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) in the Nyanza region has sent a wave of fear and insecurity to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party officials.
Since President William Ruto’s move to form a broad-based government to accommodate the ODM led by its party leader Raila Odinga, UDA has found a clear path to make in routes into the Nyanza region which was initially perceived to be Raila Odinga’s stronghold.
Raila Odinga’s AUC candidacy has also made him focus on international politics leaving his backyard up for grab by local politicians and his rivals who seem to be penetrating into the region without many efforts.
President William Ruto’s frequent visits into the region and the neighboring counties also seem to be boring fruits unlike before when such a scenario was almost impossible and would be characterized by chaos, unrests and rebellions from the locals. However, the President trips are now smooth as locals will turn up in large numbers to cheer up the president and his allies.
The situation has raised tension among the ODM party leaders who have since gone ahead to organize a series of meetings which are likely meant to counter their counterparts. For instance, a meeting has been scheduled to take place in Kakamega beginning this Sunday and another one in Busia at the end of this month.
In a invite statement, it was confirmed that the convention’s agenda will be preparation for an upcoming delegates’ meeting.
This meeting is organized by deputy party leader Godfrey Osotsi to consolidate the ODM teams in the region and prepare them for the upcoming ODM@20 regional delegates to be held in Busia County
This comes as the country gears up towards the upcoming 2027 general polls and parties have started to prepare themselves and position their potential candidates before the official campaign season sets in.
