As part of the visit of the Moroccan technical delegation tasked with preparing the reopening of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Damascus, a joint mission comprising Moroccan officials and Syrian senior officials paid a field visit to ascertain the effective closure of the office of the polisario separatists in the Syrian capital.
With this move the Syrian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to respecting the Kingdom’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting any form of support for separatist entities.
According to reports in the MAP news, this move also testifies to Syria’s firm willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Morocco and promote regional stability.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI’s decision to reopen the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus has been seen by the diplomatic community as a mark of a new era in Moroccan-Syrian relations.
“The closure of the polisario office in Syria is a tangible expression of this mutual commitment to the Kingdom’s territorial integrity,” read the report.
This move follows similar acts by two South American countries that have this week recognized Morocco territorial integrity over the Sahara and endorsement of the Autonomy Plan as passed by the United Nations.
