Social media influencers Peter Muteti and Billy Mwangi, who were abducted on December 21, 2024, have been released.
Muteti was abducted in Nairobi County, while Mwangi was taken in Embu County.
Muteti’s family confirmed his release on Monday, January 6, stating that he was in their custody but appeared disoriented.
Mwangi, on the other hand, returned to his father’s home in Majengo Estate, Embu town, on Monday morning, where he was warmly received by his family.
As of the time of publishing, neither Muteti nor Mwangi had disclosed details about their experiences during the weeks they were missing.
Muteti’s abduction occurred in the Uthiru area of Nairobi, just outside an Mpesa outlet, and was captured on CCTV. The footage showed two men accosting him before bundling him into a waiting vehicle.
The release of the two influencers follows weeks of public outcry and calls from leaders demanding the release of young people who had recently been abducted.
Their families and supporters continue to urge authorities to investigate the incidents and ensure justice for all victims of such abductions.
