President William Ruto’s administration has dismissed allegations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed there was a plot to poison him using chemical weapons.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, in an interview with TV47, rubbished the claims, describing them as “highly inciteful smear allegations” intended to stir public emotion and gain sympathy for Gachagua’s political ambitions.

Mwaura accused the former DP of attempting to build momentum for his newly launched political party by inciting fear and mistrust among Kenyans. He maintained that the government had no interest in harming Gachagua or any other citizen, stating that the administration remained committed to protecting all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations.

“If you are a law-abiding citizen, you don’t have to worry. These are smear allegations aimed at stoking emotions and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve,” Mwaura stated.

He further dismissed Gachagua’s claims as “outrageous and laughable,” emphasising that the state would only act against corrupt individuals or those inciting violence.

“The government’s role is to maintain law and order. We will act only if you are corrupt, an inciter, or making dangerous political statements to gain mileage,” Mwaura added.

His remarks came just hours after Gachagua alleged that he had received intelligence reports pointing to a plot by top government security agencies to eliminate him due to his opposition to President Ruto’s leadership.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, May 19, the former DP claimed that while attending a church service in Gatanga the previous day, he was alerted to the existence of a plan to “deal with him once and for all.”

He also alleged that some officers had been instructed to plant weapons in his convoy to fabricate charges against him in court.
