The Social Health Authority (SHA) has released a list of health facilities suspended over suspected fraudulent dealings targeting the authority’s operations.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, August 8, SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi announced that the suspended facilities will no longer access any benefits under the authority for the duration of their suspension.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 48 (6) of the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, the Social Health Authority gives notice to the public of the suspension of the health facilities set out in the Schedule below,” read the notice.
The CEO further clarified that, “In accordance with the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act, the health facilities set out in the Schedule shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during the period of their suspension.”
The crackdown has affected facilities across multiple counties.
In Homa Bay, the suspended institutions include Rachuonyo County Hospital, Kotiende Medical Centre, Nyatoto Health Centre, Queen Rivers Medical Centre, Archprime Medical Clinic Oyugis, and Torics Nursing Home.
In Nairobi, the affected facilities are Salama Yard Medical Centre, Vebeneza Medical Centre-Tassia, ABM Specialized Hospital, Imara Healthcare Centre, Dolma Medical Center, Lengo Medical, St. Johns Hospital Ltd, Edris Premier Hospital Limited, Bristol Park Hospital Fedha, and Selacare Health Services.
Bungoma County recorded suspensions for Nabulala Hospital, The Webuye Hospital Limited, Maxicare Sunrise Ltd Hospital, and Lifecare Hospitals Bungoma Ltd.
In Kakamega, Zion Ahadi Mediclinic in Butere and Oasis Doctors Plaza Kakamega Limited were suspended.
Vihiga County had St. Mark Orthodox Hospital-Chavakali suspended, while Busia County saw Tanaja Hospital Limited and Brimaxxa Hospital Limited affected.
Kajiado County’s Lemayian Hospital-Kitengela was also listed, alongside Wajir’s Walalaha Nursing Home and New Manyalo Nursing Home.
In Kisumu, the suspended facilities are Nissi Medical Centre and Dawa Front Healthcare Services, while Kilifi saw Jambo Jipya Hospital-Mtwapa suspended.
Mandera County recorded eight suspensions: Al-Masry Nursing Home Limited, Rhamu Dimtu Medical Center, Balanga Medical Center Limited, Care Connect Hospital, Al Shamsi Medical Centre Limited, Merti Nursing Home Limited, Zamzam Nursing Home Rhamu, and Nibil Nursing Home Limited.
Kirinyaga County had a single facility affected—White Rose Medical Centre.
The authority has not disclosed the specific nature of the alleged fraud in each case but said the move was in line with ongoing efforts to clean up the healthcare system and ensure accountability.
