Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba have demanded the resignation of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of being unfit to serve in government following the murder of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett in Elgeyo Marakwet.

The leaders criticised Murkomen’s handling of the country’s internal security, pointing to his previous condemnation of insecurity in the Kerio Valley during the Uhuru Kenyatta administration.

“Transferring incompetence to the Ministry of Interior is dangerous because you lose lives,” Cherargei posted on X.
“This minister should be called out, he is embarrassing all of us who are in government. In fact, Murkomen master should resign.”

Cherargei lashed out at Murkomen for allegedly downplaying the circumstances surrounding the killing of Fr. Bett, accusing him of instructing the police to deny that the murder was linked to banditry.

“But now he is in charge of security, and our people continue to be slaughtered like goats because he is just incorrigible, incompetent, and lazy,” he said.
“We shall not allow him to malign the priest in death.”

The Senator claimed that criminal gangs had overrun the area for three consecutive days, killing multiple residents, while the government remained silent.

Both Cherargei and Wamuchomba also took aim at Defence CS Aden Duale, noting the irony of current leaders condemning insecurity while they had once been fierce critics of the previous regime over similar issues.

Wamuchomba urged Murkomen to step aside from government entirely.

“Murkomen should just resign and join noise makers. He performed better there,” she said.
“The killing of the Catholic father by bandits is heartbreaking.”

She also criticised Duale for speaking on matters outside his docket, urging him to focus on resolving the crisis in the health sector.

“He should only speak when healthcare workers are properly employed and remunerated,” she added.

Wamuchomba ended her remarks with a cryptic warning, stating that the “1 T spirit is in the air,” hinting at mounting political unrest and dissatisfaction with the government’s performance on critical issues.
