Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has thrown his weight behind President William Ruto’s bid for re-election in 2027, expressing confidence in Ruto’s leadership and future political prospects.
Speaking on Friday at the burial ceremony of his father, Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, in Kilifi County, Kingi dismissed critics of the President, likening Ruto’s resilience to a seed that will germinate despite being buried.
“They are burying you on the internet, not knowing you’re like a seed. If they knew you are a seed, they would not be burying you because come 2027, they will be shocked at how the seed will have germinated,” Kingi remarked during his speech.
The Senate Speaker’s endorsement adds to the growing political momentum for President Ruto as he prepares for a potential re-election campaign. Kingi, a key political figure in the coastal region and leader of the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party, played a crucial role in Ruto’s 2022 electoral victory and has remained a staunch ally of the President.
His remarks come at a time when political realignments and early campaigns are taking shape in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Ruto, who has been implementing his ‘Bottom-Up’ economic agenda, continues to receive mixed reactions from both supporters and critics regarding his administration’s performance.
Kingi’s endorsement is expected to bolster Ruto’s support base, particularly in the coastal region, where political loyalty has historically shifted between different parties. Observers note that his influence could play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s political landscape in the coming years.
As the 2027 elections approach, political leaders across the country are beginning to position themselves for key roles, with alliances and endorsements expected to intensify in the months ahead.
