Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that security agents in unmarked cars have been trailing him, raising concerns over his safety.
Speaking on Wednesday night, Gachagua expressed fears for his life, urging Kenyans to hold the state accountable if anything were to happen to him.
“In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions, and disappearances by state agents, I feel it is important to inform Kenyans of the harassment and intimidation I am enduring. The state should be held responsible if I am harmed,” he said.
Gachagua called on the government to cease what he described as unwarranted interference in his life.
“I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office; now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen,” he added.
The former DP alleged that unmarked vehicles have been stationed outside his Nairobi residence, monitoring his visitors and following him whenever he leaves.
He shared a photo of one such vehicle on social media, claiming it had trailed him from his residence to PCEA Kerarapon Church, a lunch venue, and back to his house on Sunday.
“Upon checking the NTSA portal, I noticed the number plates of the car are registered to a lorry,” he said.

Gachagua compared the surveillance to tactics used during the era of the infamous ‘Special Branch,’ accusing the government of returning to oppressive practices.
When contacted for a response, Police Spokesperson Resila Onyango and Nairobi Police Boss Adamson Bungei did not provide an immediate comment.
Last week, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) dismissed claims that detectives tried to stop Gachagua from attending a church event in Kahawa West on November 10.
DCI boss Mohamed Amin refuted the allegations, maintaining that the Directorate operates within the law and does not interfere with individual freedoms.
“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and appear aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI,” he stated.
Following earlier concerns over his safety, Gachagua was allocated four security officers for his protection after raising alarm over threats to his life stemming from political differences.
