Ruto reveals details of his meeting with Egyptian President El-Sisi

President William Ruto and Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah El-Sisi engaged in high-level talks in Cairo on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, focusing on strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering regional stability.

Following the meeting, Ruto shared insights into the discussions through a social media statement, highlighting key agreements and collaborative initiatives that emerged from the engagement.

One of the major outcomes was the signing of a Joint Declaration for a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, which both heads of state described as a milestone in cementing bilateral relations.

According to Ruto, this partnership is a significant step forward in enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

“Kenya and Egypt have signed the Joint Declaration for a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership. By affixing our signatures, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and I have elevated our diplomatic relations and strengthened engagements in various areas,” Ruto stated on X.

He elaborated that the agreement would unlock new opportunities, with 12 additional pacts focusing on trade, investment, education, research, and technological advancements.

Beyond bilateral agreements, the leaders also deliberated on pressing security concerns, particularly the escalating conflicts in Sudan, Somalia, and the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Ruto underscored the urgent need for collective efforts to curb violence, protect livelihoods, and restore stability in affected regions.

“Conflicts across Africa have led to immense suffering, including the loss of lives, displacement, and destruction of livelihoods. It is imperative that we work together to silence the guns and bring sustainable peace, particularly in Sudan, Somalia, and the Eastern DRC,” he remarked in a follow-up statement.

El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to peace initiatives, while Ruto commended his counterpart for playing a crucial role in stabilizing Somalia, Sudan, and the broader Middle East.

The discussions concluded with a joint press briefing at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, where both leaders reiterated their dedication to strengthening bilateral ties and addressing Africa’s security and economic challenges.

This meeting marks a renewed chapter in Kenya-Egypt relations, with both nations looking to harness their partnership for mutual economic prosperity and long-term regional stability.
