President William Ruto has named former Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani as the Chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board of Directors.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, March 28, Ruto announced Mwashetani’s appointment to lead the NTSA for a three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Mwashetani Khatib Abdallah to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority, for a period of three (3) years,” the notice read.
Mwashetani’s Appointment and Bosire’s Exit
Mwashetani’s appointment led to the revocation of Timothy Bosire’s tenure as NTSA chair. Bosire, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) treasurer, had earlier declined the role, citing personal reasons.
Expressing his gratitude for the new position, Mwashetani thanked President Ruto for the opportunity and pledged to bring his leadership skills to the board.
“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the Non-Executive Chairman of NTSA. I sincerely appreciate the trust that President Ruto has placed in me. I commit to serving with integrity and dedication to help achieve his vision for a better Kenya,” he stated.
Tecla Chebet Tum Joins GBV Taskforce
In another key appointment, former Nandi Woman Representative Tecla Chebet Tum has been selected to serve on the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including femicide.
Tum joins a 42-member committee established by Ruto in January 2025, chaired by former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza. The task force was formed in response to rising cases of GBV and femicide, which the president noted have caused significant harm to individuals, families, and communities.
The team is responsible for reviewing existing frameworks and recommending ways to strengthen legal, institutional, and policy responses to GBV and femicide.
Other notable members include Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo, investigative journalist Franklin Wallah, former Marakwet East MP Linah Jebii Kilimo, and Dr. Sam Thenya, the founder of Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
