Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga received a major boost after the Mauritius candidate for the AFRICA Union Commission Chairmanship stepped down and subsequently endorsing his candidature for the same.
In a X – message from his secretariat, communications expert Pauline Njoroge said the good news was communicated by the new Prime Minister of Mauritius Navin Ramgoolam during a phone call with President William Ruto.
“Mauritius which had submitted a candidate for AUC Chairmanship will now support Raila Odinga’s bid,” said the statement.
As fate would have it, the Mauritius candidate had been endorsed by the former PM Pravind Jagnauth who lost to Navin in recently held elections.
Currently Right Honorable Raila Odinga is on a charm offensive in West Africa campaigning among the region’s leadership including meeting Ivory Coast’s Alassane Outtara, Senegal’s Basirou Diomaye among others.
During his visit to Kisumu last weekend, President Ruto reiterated the Government’s support for the AUC bid taking time to update Kenyans on Raila’s West Africa campaigns.
Diplomatic pundits reckon that this new development is a critical turning point that would indicate a week of smooth sail in Raila’s bid for the top Africa Union post.
