Quickmart Supermarket has issued a public apology and suspended staff at its Buruburu branch after allegations surfaced that a manager and employees assaulted two young customers accused of stealing milk.
The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, began when a young woman and her brother visited the branch to purchase milk using the store’s milk ATM.
Despite presenting a receipt, the siblings claim they were accused of stealing 57 litres of milk by a staff member and taken to the manager. In a viral video, the customers alleged they were physically beaten before being handed over to the police.
Quickmart’s Response
In a statement released Tuesday, Quickmart acknowledged the incident and expressed “deep regret” over the distress caused.
“Our foremost priority is the well-being and dignity of every customer who walks through our doors. We deeply regret the distress this incident has caused,” the company said.
The retailer confirmed that the staff involved have been suspended pending a full investigation in collaboration with authorities.
“We are committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all,” the statement added. Quickmart also revealed it had reached out to the affected customers to offer apologies and support.
Public Outcry and Accountability
The case has reignited discussions about customer rights and corporate accountability. Quickmart emphasized that its brand values are rooted in “respect, kindness, and integrity,” and condemned any behavior violating these principles.
Authorities are yet to comment on the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the public awaits further action to ensure justice for the affected customers.
