The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Kirinyaga University student Sospeter Osunga, popularly known as “Akoko the Billionaire.”

In an update on Monday, December 9, the DCI revealed that investigations had linked Brian Otieno Maurice to the fatal incident that occurred on November 18, 2024, in Ayani.

Osunga was reportedly attacked by a gang and suffered fatal injuries to his back, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object.

“Following thorough investigations, three individuals were initially arrested and provided crucial information, which, combined with other intelligence leads, resulted in the apprehension of the main suspect. He is set to be arraigned in court today,” the DCI stated.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Osunga had arrived at a nightclub on the fateful day with a group of male and female friends. While at the venue, he offered to buy drinks. However, upon learning that a popular Ohangla musician was performing live at a nearby club, he and his group decided to relocate.

As they approached the new venue, a commotion ensued. Witnesses reported that the altercation involved Osunga’s group and a boda boda gang operating in the area.

The riders reportedly turned violent during the chaos, attacking Osunga and stabbing him, leaving him critically injured. His friends were also assaulted, sustaining stab wounds during the confrontation.

Authorities have intensified their investigations, and the suspect’s arraignment is expected to shed more light on the tragic incident.
