One of the most visible achievements of Ruto’s government lies in road construction and maintenance. Out of the 6,000 km of promised road development, a total of 1,343.87 km of blacktop roads have been laid by agencies like KeNHA, KURA, and KeRRA as of 2025. This has dramatically improved connectivity, reducing travel time and transportation costs while boosting trade and economic growth. The road safety index also saw improvement, with fatalities per 10,000 vehicles dropping from 9.54 in 2022 to 8.73 in 2025.
In rural areas, the government has upgraded and maintained an impressive 94,322.64 km of blacktop roads. This has enhanced market access for farmers, lowered vehicle emissions through better-maintained roads, and attracted investment due to improved infrastructure.
The railway sector has also seen a boost, with cargo transport increasing by 15.8% between 2022 and 2024, moving 7.39 million tonnes of goods. However, the Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) passenger numbers saw a decline due to heavy rains in 2023/24, reflecting the challenges faced despite infrastructure expansion.
In air transport, the development of 14 airstrips, including those in Garissa, Mandera, and Nanyuki, has increased regional connectivity and emergency response capabilities, while also boosting trade and tourism.
