President William Ruto today visited former President Uhuru Kenyatta at his family home in Gatundu. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues of national and regional significance.
President Ruto appreciated and commended President Kenyatta’s statesmanship in overseeing a peaceful power transfer after the 2022 elections. He further lauded the goodwill and support the former president has continued to demonstrate towards the country’s progress and development.
Both leaders acknowledged the global challenges affecting Kenya, including the impacts of COVID-19, the Ukraine war’s disruption of supply chains, volatile currency markets, and a challenging macroeconomic climate. They noted significant progress in addressing these challenges, including reducing inflation, stabilizing the Kenyan shilling, lowering food prices, and reducing interest rates.

President Ruto highlighted the solid foundation laid during Kenyatta’s tenure, which has enabled the government to advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. He cited key programs such as agricultural transformation for food security, universal health coverage, affordable housing, empowering MSMEs, and reforms in the education sector. The two agreed on the need to accelerate these programs to improve household incomes and create more opportunities for Kenyans.
The leaders emphasized the importance of fostering a harmonious working relationship among all stakeholders, including the three arms of government, religious leaders, civil society, and international partners, to ensure national stability and progress.
They also stressed the urgency of achieving broader political consensus to enhance inclusive governance and accelerate Kenya’s development agenda.
President Ruto commended Kenyatta for his dedication to peace-building efforts in the East African region, recognizing Kenya’s role in promoting peace and security. The leaders called for expedited resolution of court matters regarding the constitution of the IEBC selection panel to enable the appointment of commissioners.
Additionally, they rallied support for Raila Odinga’s candidacy as Chair of the African Union Commission, urging Kenyans and international partners to back the bid.
President Ruto and President Kenyatta concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to regular engagements on critical national matters and extending warm holiday wishes to all Kenyans as the festive season begins.
