President Ruto Unveils State-of-the-Art CBK Police Housing Complex, Vows Continued Reforms for Security Forces

Date:

In a landmark ceremony held in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, President William Samoei Ruto officially opened the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Police Housing Complex, hailing it as a symbol of dignity, innovation, and inter-institutional collaboration in public service delivery.

The newly launched residential complex features 210 fully furnished units 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom apartments designed to house police officers assigned to the CBK. The development, constructed on 4.1 acres of land leased from the National Police Service, is part of a unique reciprocal arrangement in which CBK also funded the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County.

“This complex is more than just a housing project,” said President Ruto during his address. “It is a statement that we are determined to restore pride and dignity to our law enforcement officers through decent, modern living conditions.”

The project, which engaged over 1,000 Kenyans during its two-year construction period, also underscored President Ruto’s emphasis on job creation, local sourcing, and sustainability. With most materials and furnishings sourced locally and a focus on green energy systems, the complex stands as a model of eco-conscious development.

Highlighting the broader implications of the initiative, President Ruto emphasized that the welfare of disciplined forces is a central element of the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He pledged that 20% of all units under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) would be ringfenced for members of the police, military, prisons, and National Youth Service.

“In addition to housing allocations, officers will benefit from affordable financing with some facilities offering interest rates as low as 3%,” the President revealed. “We are empowering our security personnel to not only serve with honour but also live with dignity.”

Currently, 2,300 institutional housing units for the police and prisons are under construction in 15 counties, with procurement ongoing for an additional 17,000 units. The Kenya Defence Forces are set to benefit from a combined 23,000 new housing units, while the Kenya Prisons Service will receive 10,000 more in the upcoming financial year.

President Ruto expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by Kenya’s security forces, many of whom serve in difficult conditions away from their families. “This is our way of saying thank you by ensuring your families have a safe, decent, and permanent place to call home,” he said.

He concluded the event by officially declaring the CBK Police Housing Complex open, calling it “a milestone in the journey to a more just, secure, and dignified Kenya.”
