President William Ruto has nominated the Vice Chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission (PSC), filling upcoming vacancies and ensuring a seamless transition within the Commission.

In a State House dispatch issued on Friday, December 20, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei stated that the nominations address vacancies anticipated in mid-January 2025, with another expected in April 2025.

“To facilitate a seamless transition within the Public Service Commission, the President has today exercised his constitutional prerogative by nominating individuals to serve in the ranks of the membership of the Commission,” the statement read in part.

Key Nominations

  1. Mary Wanjira Kimonye has been nominated as the Vice Chairperson of the PSC.
  2. Boya Molu, a former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner, has been nominated as a member. Molu was among the three IEBC Commissioners who supported the 2022 presidential election results announced by IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.
  3. Francis Meja, former Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), has been nominated as a member.
  4. Francis Otieno Owino, who served as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Industrialization under President Uhuru Kenyatta, has also been nominated.
  5. Harun Maalim Hassan, CEO of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), and Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, previously nominated as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), ASALs, and Regional Development, are among the nominees.
  6. Dr. Irene Cherotich Asienga, a government advisor on budgets and fiscal matters and a former senior lecturer and director at Kabarak University, has been nominated as a member.
  7. Joan Andisi Machayo, the Alternate Director representing the Secretary/CEO of the PSC, is also on the list.

The nominations follow the forthcoming expiry of terms for several PSC members. The President’s action aims to ensure continuity and efficiency in the Commission’s operations.

The nominees include individuals with diverse professional backgrounds, ranging from governance, fiscal advisory, and education to public administration and inclusivity.

These appointments now await parliamentary vetting and approval to take effect.
