President William Ruto, currently on a week-long tour of the Coast region, visited Kwale County today where he presided over a significant function aimed at improving healthcare access. The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing equitable and affordable medical care through the newly established Social Health Authority.
The President praised the efforts of Community Health Promoters, noting that their dedication will supplement the government’s initiatives to drive Kenya closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). He encouraged all Kenyans to register for the transformative healthcare scheme and take advantage of the accessible medical services it offers.
During his visit, the head of state laid the foundation stone for the X-Ray Block and officially inaugurated the newly completed Theatre Block at the Mkogani Sub-County Hospital. These developments mark a significant upgrade of the facility from a Level III to a Level IV hospital, enhancing the capacity to provide advanced medical services to residents of Kwale and neighboring communities.
“The upgrade of this facility is a crucial step toward ensuring that quality healthcare is within reach for every Kenyan,” said President Ruto. “We are investing in infrastructure and human resources to strengthen the health sector and deliver on our promise of Universal Health Coverage.”
The new infrastructure at Mkogani Sub-County Hospital is expected to alleviate pressure on referral hospitals and provide comprehensive care closer to the people. Residents expressed their optimism about the improvements, hopeful that the enhanced services would address long-standing challenges in accessing timely and specialized medical treatment.
