President William Ruto has appointed retired Lieutenant General Adan Mulata, the founder of Peace Prospect Institute-Africa (PPI-Africa), as the non-executive chairperson of the National Youth Service (NYS).
According to a Gazette Notice dated May 23, 2025, Mulata will serve a three-year term, replacing Lt. Gen. Njuki Mwaniki.
PPI-Africa, the policy research and consultancy firm founded by Mulata, is headquartered in Nairobi and focuses on shaping policy in the realms of security, defense, foreign relations, governance, and peacebuilding in response to Africa’s growing state fragility and conflict.
In other appointments, the Head of State revoked Joseph Kimani Machiri’s membership in the State Corporations Advisory Committee and replaced him with John Mwangi Karondo for a three-year term.
The notice also captured appointments by various Cabinet Secretaries.
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Meldah Adung as an analyst under Section 67(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.
Defence CS Soipan Tuya named Simon Mwacha to the board of Kenya Shipyards Limited.
Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe made multiple appointments including:
- To the Agricultural Finance Corporation Board: Kenneth Ndung’u Mburu, Joshua Koskei, Joyce Kioko, and Bernard Wakhungu, all to serve three-year terms. Hassan Mohamed Haji was reappointed.
- To the Nyayo Tea Zones Board: Malika Omar, Geoffrey Wachira Mahinda, Manyone Matunke David, and Patrice Chumba.
- To the Pyrethrum Processing Company Board: Paul Munyiri Kaguamba and Milton Luchiri.
- To the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation Board: Judy Ngene.
- Reappointments: Mohamed Noor (Pest Control Products Board), Silas Kilingo (Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service), and Edward Musebe (Board of Trustees of the Commodities Fund).
Education CS Julius Ogamba appointed Adan Hassan to the Council of North Eastern National Polytechnic.
Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho appointed Ruth Mumo Mulwa to the Geologists Registration Board.
Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi appointed:
- Christopher Odhiambo Karani to the board of Kenya Pipeline Company Limited.
- Charles Owino to the board of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.
The appointments are part of a wide-ranging overhaul across state corporations as the government seeks to strengthen management and align leadership with its development agenda.
