President William Ruto has revealed that a new police uniform will soon be introduced following consultations with members of the police service.

Speaking on Friday, December 13, during the launch of the National Police Service and State Department of Correctional Services strategic plans (2023-2027), the President confirmed that the design has been finalized and is ready for rollout.

The Head of State reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping the police adequately to boost their morale and efficiency.

“As I said before, we will engage the policemen and women so that we can have an appropriate uniform. I know that has been agreed upon, and what is awaiting now is for us to roll out and make sure that we kit our police with uniforms that inspire them to work and move forward,” President Ruto remarked.

Additionally, he announced plans to procure new vehicles for police stations, with 1,000 vehicles expected to be delivered by early next year.

“We have already committed ourselves to engage and procure the first 1,000 vehicles. By early next year, we will deliver the first 1,000 vehicles. We intend to deliver 3,000 vehicles for our police stations so that officers can discharge their responsibilities effectively,” he stated.

President Ruto also highlighted progress in housing projects for police officers, revealing that 582 housing units have been completed, 1,000 are under construction, and 17,000 are in the final stages of procurement.

He further emphasized plans to digitize the police service to enhance efficiency while affirming the government’s commitment to implementing reforms recommended by a task force led by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

“I did make a commitment that we are going to look into the terms of service, including salaries and insurance packages for our police officers. I’m happy that we have implemented phase one of the recommendations made by Maraga, and I want to commit that all the other phases will also be implemented,” President Ruto explained.
