Police have questioned five individuals in connection with the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, as investigations into the controversial case intensify.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Tuesday confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the MP, who reportedly resurfaced three days after vanishing. Investigators are also planning to question Koimburi directly, but Kanja noted that initial attempts to reach him had failed.

“We will continue to pursue all leads, analyse forensic evidence, and ensure that any perpetrators are brought to justice,” Kanja stated.

Koimburi disappeared on Friday, May 23, shortly after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved charges against him in an ongoing land fraud investigation.

According to Kanja, the legislator evaded arrest that day by fleeing on a motorcycle with his private security and turning off his mobile phone.

“His car, occupied only by his driver, was intercepted. The driver was arrested and later released after recording a statement,” the IG added.

Koimburi reportedly reappeared on Monday, May 26, the same day a video surfaced online showing him seemingly distressed and abandoned on a farm in Juja.

However, police have cast doubt on the footage. Investigators who visited the location shown in the video found inconsistencies in vegetation and road dimensions.

“It was established that the two did not match,” said Kanja.

The caretaker of the coffee farm featured in the clip also denied witnessing any such incident.

Police also followed up at the hospital where Koimburi was allegedly treated after his return. However, the hospital declined to release medical information, hindering efforts to verify the MP’s condition.

The case has taken a political turn, with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemning police suggestions that Koimburi may have staged the abduction.

“It is a shame for anyone to suggest the legislator abducted himself. We must not trivialise such serious matters,” Kalonzo told reporters after visiting the MP at Karen Hospital on Tuesday.

Koimburi’s alleged abduction and the criminal charges against him have sparked widespread speculation, as police continue to piece together the events surrounding his disappearance and reappearance.
