The body of police officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who was killed while serving in Haiti, arrived in Kenya on the evening of Monday, March 10.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service (APS), Gilbert Masengeli, led officials in receiving the officer’s remains at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The homecoming followed an earlier visit by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to Naserian Village in Kajiado County, where he condoled with Kaetuai’s family and friends.
“The Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, received the body of the late officer at JKIA on Monday evening, March 10. This follows a visit by Inspector General Douglas Kanja on March 2, during which he extended condolences to the family and friends in Naserian Village, Kajiado East Sub-County,” NPS stated.

Tompoi’s remains were later taken to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation as burial arrangements continue. Among those present at JKIA were NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, Kajiado Senator Peris Tobiko, family members, and family spokesperson George Kimiti.

Tompoi was serving under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti when he was fatally injured during an operation against armed gangs in the Ségur-Savien area of the Artibonite department on February 23, 2025. He was airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
The MSS mission, led by Kenyan forces since June 2024, was deployed to support efforts in stabilizing Haiti amid escalating gang violence. His death marks the first casualty among Kenyan officers serving in the mission.
The government, fellow officers, and family continue to mourn Tompoi’s loss as they prepare for his final sendoff.
