With just 24 days remaining before the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off, Kenya is ramping up efforts to complete renovations at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium. These iconic venues will host the tournament starting February 1, 2025, and are also critical to Kenya’s bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the former Sports CS, and his successor, Salim Mvurya, conducted an inspection of the venues today, showcasing significant progress in the preparations:

Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani

  • Changing Rooms: Fully complete and ready for use.
  • Playing Field: Nearing completion, with final touches being applied to meet CAF standards.

Nyayo National Stadium

  • Renovations are progressing rapidly, focusing on compliance with international standards for lighting, seating, and pitch quality.

Kasarani Annex

  • Targeted upgrades are ongoing to support training and auxiliary needs during the tournament.

Key Challenges and Deadlines

Meeting CAF’s stringent standards remains a priority, with the pressure mounting to finalize renovations before the set deadlines. The efforts aim to:
