Businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) camped at his home on the morning of the Saba Saba commemoration.

In a statement on Monday, July 7, he described the alleged police presence as a political intimidation tactic, further calling on President William Ruto to step down.

“DCI at my home today Saba Saba! All this stupidity has to stop! Ruto must resign, all this intimidation shall not make you legitimate, the people ousted you a long time ago!” he said.

Wanjigi also shared images of a Toyota Hilux Double Cab and a white Subaru that arrived at the gate of his residence at 10:09 AM and 10:13AM respectively.

These claims come a year after a heavily armed team of police officers raided Wanjigi’s home in a multi-agency operation which lasted several hours.

According to accounts from his family and associates, officers searched through the mansion multiple times; once around 7pm, again at midnight, and a third time early the following morning.

During the search, police reportedly seized several items including iPhones, iPads, walkie-talkies, and fuel receipts. They also claimed to have discovered four teargas canisters in a vehicle parked at the gate.

Wanjigi’s family later accused the police of threatening and assaulting them during the operation, while also alleging that property within the home was vandalised and that officers planted items during the search.

“They kicked my mother and sister in the head while they were lying on the floor. I was beaten by five officers, while my mother and sister were forced to lie on the floor and were kicked in the head,” Wanjigi’s son Maina said.

Throughout the raid, Wanjigi was believed to have remained inside the house, hidden in a secure room, though police maintained he could not be found.

In a statement released afterward, Wanjigi confirmed he had stayed within the home the entire time, watching officers move through his property and accusing them of attempting to plant evidence to justify their actions.

“Yes, I was inside my home but beyond that, I will not tell you where and how and what there is in my home. Stop looking for me in my house, you will never find me.

“Seven years ago, they looked for me in this house and they could not find me. Even now, if you look for me in this house you will not find me. Please, don’t do it again. You will be wasting your time,” he said at the time.
