Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has announced that the police have begun interviewing Kenyans who were released by their abductors on Monday, January 6, 2025.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that Bernard Kavuli Musyimi had already reported to the police and was assisting with investigations into the abductions.

According to NPS, Musyimi, who had been abducted in Ngong in December 2024, presented himself at Moi’s Bridge Police Station after his release.

“Bernard Kavuli Musyimi, who was reported missing at Ngong Police Station, presented himself at Moi’s Bridge Police Station today and is assisting investigators with further information,” the statement read.

The police also stated that a team would be dispatched to gather information from Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, and Rony Kiplagat regarding their abductions and subsequent release.

“Following media reports that Billy Wanyiri Mwangi, Peter Muteti, and Rony Kiplagat, who were reported missing at Embu Police Station, Kabete Police Station, and Thogoto Police Post, respectively, have reunited with their families, we assure the public that our officers will reach out to them and their families. We will provide necessary support while seeking further information to assist ongoing investigations,” NPS added.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is reportedly probing all cases of missing persons, with several cases pending before the courts and others under active investigation.

The release of the four abductees, who were freed in different locations, including Machakos and Nairobi CBD, follows public outrage over the abductions carried out by unknown armed men in December 2024.

One of the missing individuals, Kibet Bull, remains unaccounted for.

The abductions, allegedly involving individuals believed to be security operatives, prompted widespread condemnation, with Kenyans demanding accountability and action against those responsible.

Police Distance Themselves from Allegations

The National Police Service has distanced itself from involvement in the abductions, reaffirming its commitment to investigating the incidents and ensuring justice for the victims.
