Open University of Kenya in a historic graduation on November 29

History is set to be made when the Open University of Kenya holds its graduation ceremony for the first time since its inauguration a year ago.


The university has since enrolled over 3600 students in its programmes in different academic areas including Business and Entrepreneurship, Data Science, Cyber Security and Data Forensics, Economics and Statistics, Technology Education, Leadership and Accountability, Learning Design and Technology.
“It’s a historic event in Kenya’s education landscape as the government fully embraces digital way of learning. OUK is a pointer to the government’s commitment to access and equity. Online is the way to go,” says the Vice Chancellor Prof Elijah Omwenga.


The university is futuristic in design and meant to solve current and future problems will hold its graduation at the Konza Technopolis sandwiched between Makueni and Machakos Counties.

“The place to be. By leveraging technology and flexible learning modes, The Open University of Kenya (OUK) stands out as a unique institution of higher learning. It promotes flexibility and exclusivity regarding admission, study progression, study locations, and study methods catering to individuals who wish to balance work and study” observed on of the stakeholders.


The university received a charter from President William Ruto exactly a year ago and it will be a monumental event seeing the first cohort coming out as the pioneer alumnus of the University.
