The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reaffirmed its support for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Party Leader Raila Odinga and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), calling for swift implementation of the agreement’s 10-point agenda to stabilize the country and address citizens’ concerns.
In a statement released after a Central Committee meeting chaired by Odinga, ODM announced a series of resolutions aimed at reinforcing the party’s role in national transformation and political cooperation. Key among the resolutions is the formation of a technical team to collaborate with UDA counterparts in executing the MoU, citing its absence as a critical gap.
The party emphasized that the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report remains a top priority, particularly sections dealing with youth empowerment, protection of civil liberties, and anti-corruption measures.
Additionally, ODM welcomed the recent allocation of KSh 415 billion to counties, terming it an improvement on previous disbursements but reiterated its push for at least KSh 450 billion, in line with Odinga’s earlier proposals. The party also demanded full implementation of the unbundling of devolved functions to strengthen county governments.
The committee voiced support for a national inter-generational dialogue focused on youth issues, and reaffirmed plans to carry out grassroots elections as part of internal party regeneration and the ODM at 20 celebrations.
In a unifying statement, ODM Secretary-General Senator Edwin Sifuna noted that despite differing views among members, the meeting forged a united front committed to serving the people and championing national stability through democratic means.
