The National Youth Service (NYS) has advertised a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteers willing to serve the country. According to an announcement published in the MyGov paper, the recruitment will take place from Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15 across various sub-counties.
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens and residents of the sub-counties where they intend to be recruited. They are also required to have a minimum KCSE mean grade of D plain.
Additionally, candidates must present their original National ID and a Certificate of Good Conduct, undergo medical check-ups before and after the recruitment process, and be prepared for rigorous training upon selection.
The Service said successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil and NYSTTI, Naivasha on dates and times which will be specified in their respective calling letters to be issued.
The recruits will be subjected to rigorous non-combat paramilitary training for six months.
NYS said orphans who meet the qualification requirements will be given special preference, subject to production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
The recruitment process will give special consideration to orphans who meet the set requirements. Persons with disabilities will also be allowed to participate, provided they can complete the physical training.
In the notice, NYS emphasized its zero-tolerance policy on corruption, warning that bribery, canvassing, or any other form of malpractice during the recruitment process will lead to automatic disqualification or legal action.
“NYS does not condone corruption in any form. Canvassing and giving monetary or other considerations for admission is an offense that may lead to automatic disqualification or prosecution,” the notice read in part.
