NTSA cautions road users ahead of school reopening

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has published the updated list of approved motor vehicle body builders, conformity assessors, and licensed speed limiter suppliers for August 2025.

In a notice issued on Friday, the agency said the update is part of its mandate under Section 4 of the NTSA Act No. 33 of 2012 and the Traffic Act (CAP 403) to strengthen road safety in the country.

NTSA stressed that all vehicle body builders must comply with the Kenya Standard KS 372:2019, which requires bus bodies to be safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. It added that approved firms are expected to maintain the highest standards in design, construction, and assembly.

“Conformity assessors are required to issue certificates of conformity and affix the VIN plate on the body of the vehicle as proof of compliance with the Standard,” NTSA stated.

The updated register lists forty-two approved body builders spread across different counties. Among them are Kenya Coach Industries in Nairobi, Associated Vehicle Assemblers Limited in Mombasa, Kisumu Mpya in Kisumu, and Sahota Body Works Limited in Nakuru. Others such as Black Sparks Fabricators, Blessed Hand Auto Garage, and Himat Fabricators also remain on the list.

NTSA further approved two conformity assessors: Al-Sahel Services Limited and the Kenya Association of Bus Manufacturers Services Limited, both based in Nairobi. The firms are mandated to issue certificates of conformity and affix Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates as proof of compliance with KS 372:2019.

On speed limiters, the authority confirmed that twelve companies are now licensed under KS 2295:2023, which provides guidelines for suppliers. These include Ajira Connect, Karibia Technology Solution Limited, Kensrin Company Limited, Marts Logistics Limited, Oak and Gold Limited, Pinnacle Systems Limited, Power Governors Limited, Saferider Management Systems Limited, Track and Trace Limited, Tracktrail Solution, Trailmycar Solutions Limited, and Transport & Lifting Services Limited.

NTSA reminded stakeholders that speed limiter suppliers must obtain permits from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), approval from the Chief Mechanical and Transport Engineer, and licensing by NTSA before commencing operations.

The full lists and standards, KS 372:2019 and KS 2295:2023, are available on the KEBS website.
