A senior police officer was arrested on Monday for allegedly soliciting a bribe and assaulting a colleague after unlawfully posing as a traffic officer at Globe Roundabout in Nairobi.

The officer, identified as Inspector Guyo Dida, the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Mavindini Police Station in Makueni County, was taken into custody at 10 a.m. following a complaint by a motorist.

According to a police report, Inspector Dida, in full police uniform, flagged down a motorist, identified as Magongo, accusing her of obstructing traffic. While on the way, Dida allegedly demanded a bribe of KSh 15,000 to avoid taking further action against her.

Intervention and Confrontation

A concerned road user familiar with Dida’s alleged behavior alerted Central Police Station Inspector Ambrose Kivuva, who quickly intervened by intercepting the vehicle.

The situation escalated when Dida confronted Kivuva, accusing him of interfering with his actions. The confrontation turned violent, with Dida reportedly slapping Kivuva and causing injuries to his face and chest. In the process, Dida tore the upper part of Kivuva’s uniform.

Public and Police Response

Members of the public and other officers at the scene stepped in to restrain Dida and escorted him to Central Police Station.

Dida is expected to face charges for soliciting a bribe, assaulting a colleague, and misconduct while on duty.

Authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to ensure accountability.
