The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Kalenjin “Mali Safi Chito” hit song singer Millicent Jerotich Kipkorir popularly known across the country’s entertainment sector as Marakwet daughter over her latest production.
In her song which is majorly in Kalenjin dialect, the singer mentions the word “Arap Rutto” with video images suggesting that she was referring to Kenya’s president.
In the sermon letter addressed to Ms Jepkorir on Wednesday 5th Feb, who has been accused of spreading hatred and division was asked to present without fail.
“Pursuant to the above-mentioned mandate, the Commission is investigating the words used in your hit song to wit; “Arap Ruto” Words which are likely to incite feelings of ethnic contempt, hatred, hostility and affect harmonious coexistence between different ethnic communities in Kenya, contrary to Section 13(1) (a) and Section 62 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act,” reads part of the letter.
“NCIC has summoned Ms.Millicent Jerotich Kipkorir to appear before the Commission to assist in carrying out investigations on utterances she made in her song titled “Arap Ruto”, NCIC added on social media.
Marakwet daughter hit the airwaves last year when her song went viral and garnered over fifteen million views putting her into a sudden stardom.
