The National Assembly has confirmed dates for vetting recently nominated Cabinet Secretaries, ambassadorial candidates, and Public Service Commission (PSC) members.

In an announcement on Tuesday, December 24, Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge stated that the vetting sessions will commence in January 2025, with different parliamentary committees overseeing the evaluations.

Cabinet Secretary Nominees

The Committee on Appointments is scheduled to vet Cabinet Secretary nominees on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Mini Chamber on the first floor of County Hall, Parliament Buildings.

  • Mutahi Kagwe, nominated for the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development, will be vetted at 12 PM.
  • William Kabogo, nominee for the Ministry of Information, Communications & the Digital Economy, will appear at 3 PM.
  • Lee Kinyanjui, nominated for the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry, will be vetted at 5 PM.

Ambassadorial Nominees

On Friday, January 10, 2025, the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations will vet ambassadorial nominees in Committee Room 9 at the Main Parliament Buildings.

  • Margaret Nyambura Ndug’u, nominated as Ambassador to Accra, Ghana, will appear at 9 AM.
  • Dr. Andrew Karanja, nominee for Ambassador to Brasília, Brazil, will face the committee at 11 AM.
  • Ababu Namwamba, nominated for the UNEP/UNON position in Nairobi, will be vetted at 2 PM.
  • Noor Gabow, nominee for Ambassador to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is scheduled for 4 PM.

Public Service Commission Nominees

The Departmental Committee on Labour will vet PSC nominees on Thursday, January 9, 2025, starting at 8:30 AM in Committee Room 9 at the Main Parliament Buildings. The process includes vetting for the Vice-Chairperson role and various Member positions.

Public Participation

The Clerk of the National Assembly urged Kenyans to participate in the vetting process by submitting written statements supporting or contesting any nominee’s suitability. Submissions must include evidence and be sent to the Clerk’s office or via email at [email protected] by January 3, 2025, at 5 PM.

Requirements for Nominees

All nominees are required to present original identification cards, academic and professional certificates, and evidence of compliance from the following institutions:

  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
  • Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
  • Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • Registrar of Political Parties
  • Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
