The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has commenced the rehabilitation of Nairobi City County’s infrastructure following the issuance of tenders.

The initiative aligns with President William Ruto’s recent pledge to improve road infrastructure in Nairobi. The commitment followed his discussions with national government agencies and the Nairobi City County Government.

Among the projects listed in KURA’s notice is the rehabilitation of the Savannah-Stage 17 Bridge Road, a promise President Ruto made during a church service in Soweto. Other roads earmarked for improvement include Jogoo Road and Landhies Road.

Tender documents for these projects are available on the Public Procurement Information Portal and KURA’s official website.

Speaking on the ongoing efforts, Governor Johnson Sakaja reiterated Nairobi County’s dedication to infrastructure development. He revealed that work on roads across the city would begin in December and be implemented in three phases.

“Mfangano Lane in the lower CBD is already complete, and we are progressing with critical projects like the Haile Selassie Service Road near Agip Petrol Station, Utalii Lane, and Moi Avenue Service Road,” Sakaja said.

“This is part of a broader plan to enhance roads both within the CBD and in residential estates,” he added.

The governor also announced stricter regulations in areas like Kilimani and Kileleshwa, where developers will be required to rehabilitate adjacent roads before receiving occupancy certificates.

On November 15, Governor Sakaja held a meeting with Transport CS Davis Chirchir, where they agreed to coordinate efforts with national agencies such as KURA, KENHA, and KERRA to streamline road rehabilitation initiatives across Nairobi.

Nairobi County Executive for Mobility and Works, Ibrahim Auma, reaffirmed the focus on ward-level projects.

“In Nyayo Highrise Ward, access roads are being upgraded, while construction is ongoing for the Roysambu Primary School Access Road in Zimmerman and Lenana B Road in Ngando Ward. We will not stop until all identified roads are completed,” Auma assured.
