Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to bandits operating in Baringo County, urging them to surrender their arms immediately or face a comprehensive government disarmament operation.
While hailing the success of Operation Maliza Uhalifu, which has helped restore peace in many parts of the region, Murkomen acknowledged that banditry and cattle rustling continue to undermine efforts to fully stabilize the area. “We are stepping up our efforts to bring about lasting peace. I reiterate my earlier call to bandits to surrender their arms before we embark on a comprehensive disarmament,” he warned.
Baringo, a county renowned for its breathtaking scenery and rich natural attractions, is being positioned as a key tourist destination. However, insecurity in areas such as Tiaty threatens to derail this vision. To counter this, the government is ramping up security infrastructure by constructing new police stations and security roads, aimed at boosting investor confidence and unlocking socio-economic opportunities in marginalized parts of the county.
Murkomen also sounded a warning to rogue civil servants and police officers abetting illicit alcohol trade, affirming that the crackdown will be sustained. He further outlined government plans to enhance service delivery through the creation of new administrative units and improvements to the welfare of police officers and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs).
“The road to sustainable peace in Baringo is through both security and development,” Murkomen emphasized.
