Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has declared President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027 a certainty, urging Kenyans to brace for his second term not as a possibility but as a political reality.
Speaking on Saturday, June 5, 2025, during the burial of Mildred Ayiemba Osotsi Wanyama—the mother of FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga and football star Victor Wanyama—in Uasin Gishu County, Mudavadi told mourners that Ruto’s path to a second term was already sealed.
“I stood with Ruto when he was seeking votes. I declared an earthquake when others thought he had no chance. We stood by him, and he won,” Mudavadi said, recalling his 2022 breakaway from Azimio to support Kenya Kwanza. “I gave you direction then. Today I repeat: Ruto will be re-elected through the ballot. It’s going to happen.”
The former ANC party leader dismissed the mounting political criticism facing the government, describing it as baseless noise. He accused sections of the opposition of abusing their democratic freedoms instead of offering constructive alternatives.
“We are not against people expressing themselves,” Mudavadi noted. “But some, when given a platform, choose to insult rather than debate. That’s not real democracy.”
He also lauded President Ruto for taking bold, often unpopular, steps to correct long-standing national issues, claiming that previous administrations avoided hard decisions and left a burden that Ruto is now forced to confront.
“Our President has walked a rough path—Kanyaga Barabara. He has no luxury of evasion. He must make the hard calls that others feared,” Mudavadi told the crowd.
Among the areas Mudavadi cited were economic reforms, youth job creation, healthcare investment, and major infrastructure projects—all of which, he argued, require political will over popularity.
He said that while the cost of reforms may be politically painful in the short term, they are essential to secure a better future. “It is easier to make a fortune, but harder to make a difference,” he added.
Closing his speech, Mudavadi offered a firm prediction: “Mark my words—2027 belongs to President Ruto.”
