MSS provides update on repatriation of Kenyan officer killed in Haiti

Date:

The Multinational Security Support (MSS) has issued an update on efforts to repatriate the body of Administration Police Constable (APC) Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who died from injuries sustained during an operation in Haiti’s Segur-Savien area on February 23, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 6, MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge confirmed that plans to return the fallen officer’s body to Kenya are in progress. He highlighted ongoing coordination between MSS officials, the National Police Service, Haiti’s Foreign Relations Office, and Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate a smooth process.

Otunge noted that necessary documentation is being finalized, and logistical arrangements for transportation are being handled in collaboration with relevant authorities.

“The MSS fraternity continues to mourn the loss of Administration Police Constable (APC) Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who displayed unwavering heroism in the line of duty. Efforts to repatriate his remains from the Dominican Republic to Kenya are actively underway, with close coordination between MSS officials, Kenya’s National Police Service, and foreign affairs representatives from both nations,” read part of the statement.

Kaetuai sustained critical injuries during an MSS-led operation in the Segur-Savien region of Haiti’s Artibonite department. He was swiftly airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital for urgent medical attention, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.

His death has drawn messages of condolence and solidarity from leaders and diplomats. On March 1, Haiti’s TPC President, Leslie Voltaire, visited the MSS Headquarters to express support, while ambassadors in Haiti also sent their sympathies to the MSS team.

Back home, National Police Service Inspector General Douglas Kanja led a delegation to Kaetuai’s family in Kajiado County on March 2. He paid tribute to the officer, describing him as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country.

As repatriation plans continue, the MSS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Kaetuai receives the honor he deserves, recognizing his bravery and dedication to duty.
