MP Koech: Foreign Affairs CS Mudavadi to Be Summoned Over Kizza Besigye’s Abduction

Date:

Belgut MP Nelson Koech has announced that Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi will be summoned to clarify the abduction of Uganda’s opposition leader, Kizza Besigye.

Besigye was reportedly abducted in Nairobi on November 16 while preparing to attend the launch of Martha Karua’s book.

Koech, who chairs the National Assembly Defence and Foreign Relations Committee, stated that all relevant officials, including Mudavadi, who is also the acting Interior CS, will be invited to provide details on the incident.

“I made an undertaking that we will invite the relevant leaders to shed light on what exactly happened. I will invite Musalia Mudavadi to explain the circumstances surrounding this matter,” Koech said.

The MP urged calm, emphasizing the need for facts over speculation.

“I do not want us to be emotional over an issue where we can obtain clear details and address it accordingly,” he added.

Despite growing concerns about the integrity of Kenya’s security authorities, Koech affirmed that Kenya remains a peaceful state and reassured foreigners of their safety while visiting the country.

“We are a peaceful country; we host people and are recognized for doing so. Even Besigye himself felt comfortable coming into the country,” he noted.

Koech’s remarks come amid increased incidents of abductions in Kenya, which have raised public doubts about the competence of security agencies. Some of these cases, including those tied to anti-Finance Bill protests, have tragically resulted in fatalities, with victims found dead in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Kizza Besigye was reportedly transferred to a Ugandan military jail after his abduction and detained until Wednesday. Reports indicate he faced charges related to security and illegal possession of firearms.
