Molo MP Kimani Kuria has issued a statement mourning the death of Raymond Otieno, a youth leader and community mobilizer popularly known as “Molo President,” who was found dead near his rented apartment.

In the statement issued on Sunday, January 19, 2025, Kuria expressed shock and sorrow over Otieno’s tragic demise, describing him as a dedicated advocate for youth, women, and the less privileged in society.

“I have known Raymond throughout my political career, and he has been a true champion on issues affecting the youth, women, and less privileged in society. His contributions to the sociopolitical welfare of the community within Molo Constituency and Nakuru County have been profound, impacting many lives,” Kuria stated.

The MP lamented Otieno’s death as a significant loss, praising his bravery and resilience. “Unfortunately, the cruel hand of death has robbed us of one of Molo’s true sons whose bravery, steadfastness, and courage, even in times of adversity, shall be missed by all those whose lives he touched in one way or another,” he added.

Calls for Expedited Investigations
Kuria emphasized the need for urgent investigations into the murder, urging residents to remain calm as authorities work to uncover the truth.

“In this regard, I have been in contact with the Rift Valley Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, the Nakuru County, and Molo security teams, demanding swift investigations into this matter. I urge all of us to remain calm and allow our investigative bodies to conduct their work and bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.

Otieno was reportedly murdered on Saturday night, January 18, 2025, near his residence by unknown assailants armed with an axe. His death triggered widespread protests in Molo, with hundreds of residents taking to the streets on Sunday to demand justice.

The protesters stormed the mortuary where Otieno’s body was being held, retrieved it, and marched through Elburgon town, paralyzing business activities. They voiced frustrations over perceived police inaction and the rising insecurity in the area.

A Vocal Critic of Leadership
Otieno, a vocal critic of the government and MP Kimani Kuria, had accused local leaders of failing to fulfill their campaign promises. He had previously contested the Elburgon MCA seat in 2022 and gained attention during the Gen Z protests in Molo, where he was arrested for allegedly leading demonstrations.

Residents reported that Otieno had received threats in recent months due to his outspoken stance on governance and social justice issues.

As investigations into his death continue, leaders and residents are calling for justice and heightened efforts to address security concerns in Molo and its surrounding areas.
