Morocco Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita

Morocco has committed to increasing the annual scholarships offered to Ghana from 90 to 140 annually in a reinvigorated push for continental reach even as Ghana considers the Autonomy plan as the only solution to the Sahara question.

In a joint communique between Morocco Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Ghanaian counterpart Samual Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana supports the Autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations.

“On the basis of recent developments, the Republic of Ghana commends the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical and lasting solution to this regional dispute,” stated the communique.

Ghana joins Kenya, Spain, France, United Kingdom and the United States of America who have recently endorsed the Autonomy Plan as the way towards a sustainable solution to the Sahara question.
At the same time two countries affirmed the need to promote human capital formation and cultural exchange.

The scholarships to top Moroccan universities and technical institutions are offered by the Morran Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI).

At the same time the Ghanaian Party encouraged the development of a dynamic student exchange framework where Moroccan students can gain from Ghanaian universities offering programmes in English.
This is a remarkable volume since countries like Kenya receive just 20 annually with a recent visit by the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Mudavadi promising to increase this figure.

During the joint meeting in Rabat, H.E Bourita hailed Ghana for her distinguished role in the regional peace and stability citing her membership of the regional ECOWAS and hosting the headquarters of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The two ministers emphasized the need for a coordinated approach and strategy on peace and security particularly in the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea.
