More than fifteen Principal Secretaries are set to face the axe as President William Ruto’s efforts to form a broad based government take full effect in 2025.

This comes as the Public Commission Commission (PSC) continues to hold a series of interviews for 109 candidates to join the government if their qualifications get a formal approval from the head of state.

Earlier this month, the PSC shortlisted the candidates to proceed to the interview stage from a total of 2517 Kenyans who had applied for the highly coveted seats. The interviews conducted running from Monday 27th to Friday 31st January will see successful candidates assume their roles across various cabinet dockets. It however still remains unclear who among the current 51 Principal Secretaries will go home despite the credible information that the number will surpass fifteen.

After last year’s June Gen Z nationwide protests, president William Ruto vowed to form a formidable government and overhaul his regime to send non-performing government officials packing, a factor that is likely to play a key role in who will be forced to exit the stage.

The ongoing interviews have also sparked endless speculations among Kenyans and political followers as a number notable figures who were shortlisted turn up before the PSC panel to defend their candidacies.

Former Nairobi County governor Anne Mwenda Kananu, former KNUT boss Wilson Sossion, former CAS David Osiany, former PS Nicholas Muraguri and Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth top the list of bigwigs who made it to the PSC list.

Former Nyeri County deputy governor Caroline Wanjiru Karugu and her Nakuru counterpart Eric Korir are representing former DGs in the interviews.

In a remarkable attempt to include the younger generation in the decision making process, National Employment Authority(NEA) chairperson Vincent Kigen, Political commentator Gabriel Oguda and former Pwani University students’ president and Kilifi based ODM youth leader Fikirini Kahindi Jacobs will be battling it out with their seniors.

After conclusion of the interview process, PSC will forward the list of successful candidates to the President for nominations after approval by the National Assembly.
