Mombasa Port to Handle 59 Vessels Over Two-Week PeriodThe Port of Mombasa is preparing to accommodate 59 vessels over the next 14 days, port authorities announced, with container ships representing the largest share of expected traffic.Container vessels will account for 33 of the incoming ships, reflecting the port’s role as a major gateway for containerized cargo serving Kenya and the broader East African region.
The remaining vessel traffic will include 20 conventional cargo ships, four car carriers, and two oil tankers. The two-week shipping schedule highlights the port’s continued importance as a critical logistics hub for the region’s import and export activities. Container ships typically handle manufactured goods, consumer products, and other cargo packed in standardized shipping containers, while conventional cargo vessels transport bulk commodities and oversized items that cannot be containerized.
The Port of Mombasa serves as Kenya’s primary seaport and handles significant cargo volumes for landlocked countries in East Africa, including Uganda, South Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.
